Tradebe’s Bellshill Waste Facility Granted Environmental Permit

Tradebe UK

Tradebe Healthcare is delighted to announce that an Environmental Permit has been approved for its new Scottish Healthcare waste facility in Bellshill, near Glasgow.  The permit was granted by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) following a detailed application process and thorough assessment by the regulator. The facility will be open to receive waste as soon as operational commissioning and final regulatory validation steps are completed, which is expected shortly.

Bellshill is the first facility for Tradebe Healthcare in Scotland and the permit further supports NHS Scotland’s transition out of contingency. The contract, announced earlier in this year, will see Tradebe Healthcare take on responsibility for the collection, transport, recycling, treatment and final disposal of healthcare waste from 18 NHS Health Boards in Scotland including hospitals, GP surgeries, dentists and pharmacies.

Lynne King, Divisional Director for Tradebe Healthcare said: “We are delighted that SEPA has granted our environmental permit enabling us to commence operations at Bellshill, and we will very shortly be open to service both NHS and Non-NHS customers.

“Bellshill is a purpose-built clinical waste treatment facility that will create and sustain more than 90 local jobs, of which we have employed 19 so far. We are very proud of our latest facility which builds on our experience of owning and operating four similar plants in England and Wales.  We have introduced equipment and processes which will enable us to optimise operations for NHS Scotland as well as creating a zero-waste to landfill solution that’s aligned with the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan.”

Bellshill was strategically selected for its central location and close proximity to around 80% of the overall healthcare waste generated in Scotland, minimising the carbon footprint of waste transfer.

Tradebe Healthcare provides an integrated waste management service, including specialist consultancy, training, e-tracked collections, treatment and final disposal at our healthcare facilities. Operating in-house incineration and alternative facilities for healthcare waste treatment, we have full control of collection and treatment, ensuring compliance and continuity of our customers’ service.
