Tradebe Presents at the British Coating Federation Members Meeting

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) is the sole UK trade association representing the paint, ink and wallpaper manufacturing industries. BCF holds regular members meeting with directors, managers, site managers and operations managers to discuss industry related topics.

On the 27th of November, Tradebe gave a presentation on waste handling and the options for recovery and recycling within the industries. Waste management for paint, ink and wallpaper manufacturers is a growing area of interest, due to environmental pressures. Companies are striving to be sustainable and to meet corporate and social responsibilities.

Phil Evans, Recycle Commercial Director and Darren Parker, Key Accounts Manager presented details about current and future legislation, the Waste Hierarchy, Duty of Care, toll recovery and recovered solvents. The presentation specifically looked at the common waste streams in the industries including flammable waste, aqueous waste, rags, wipes, spill sorbs, bulk solvent waste and dry waste such as recyclables.

From an environmental point of view, the topic of Stream Improvements Plans (SIPs) was important. SIPs look at how waste is produced and what can be done to maximise the potential of using more sustainable treatment options. Moving a company’s waste steam up the hierarchy results in increased environmental performance and often sees financial benefits.
