Tradebe Healthcare opens a new clinical waste transfer and treatment facility in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. This facility provides specialist waste management services to clinical waste producers across the region, including private and public hospitals; GP surgeries; nursing and care homes; dental practices; beauticians; veterinary practices; tattooists and pharmacies.
This site was commissioned to accommodate the substantial increase in demand for services within the Oxfordshire and Wiltshire regions, and designed to align with the new Environmental Agency legislation requiring clinical waste to be safely and securely managed within a building.
Permitted to accept a wide range of clinical and hazardous waste streams from the healthcare sector, the site has the annual capacity to process up to 12,000 tonnes of healthcare waste. Waste is processed through the on-site heat treatment facility or enters the transfer station where it is segregated, bulked and stored for onward treatment.
As a result of the new Swindon site opening, we will see operations at our smaller aged Avonmouth facility phased out over the coming year. There will however be no interruption to our contract customers waste services.
Lynne King, Healthcare Divisional Director comments: ‘Despite the extremely challenging conditions the recent pandemic has presented us with, we are able to announce that our Swindon site is now fully operational. Having been awarded several large contracts, including Oxford University Hospitals and Oxford Health, the commissioning of a local treatment site has always been part of our strategy. This new facility aligns with the growing demand in the area and is well positioned to meet that demand. Local customers will now see their waste being transferred and treated at the new Swindon site.'
Robin Randall UK CEO comments: ‘Waste management is a critical service and due to the vital nature of our operations, we have continued working throughout the pandemic by adapting and evolving to ensure the continuity of our services.
‘As clinical waste treatment facility operators, our Healthcare waste division plays a key central role in providing services during the pandemic. We’ve all faced new challenges that have changed the way we operate, but our Healthcare team have also seen a significant increase in service demand.
‘I’m proud of our dedicated team that has stepped up to the challenge during these extraordinary times and delivered the next stage towards our company’s long-term growth strategy in the healthcare waste market.’
