Tradebe Inutec Entered in Best Supply Chain Collaboration Category at 2017 NDA Awards

Tradebe UK
We are pleased to announce that Tradebe Inutec has been entered for the Best Supply Chain Collaboration award at this year’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) awards. Hosted in Central Manchester, the NDA Estate Supply Chain Event is expected to attract around 1,500 delegates, providing opportunities to network with more than 280 exhibiting companies.

The Inutec Best Supply Chain Collaboration award entry will focus on the implementation of Magnox Bradwell’s strategy change for Fuel Element Debris (FED). The project saw the development of a new waste management route for Bradwell FED, resulting in the diversion of suitable FED from dissolution to mitigate delay risk to Bradwell.  Inutec was involved in the project from the start, initially providing characterisation and large-scale experiments then waste supercompaction and co-packaging with non-FED waste.  In order to dispose of the waste, Inutec played a key role in changing the design of standard radioactive transport containers and revising operational safety cases for treatment, transport and disposal.

The project was a success, with 145 tonnes of LLW FED, gravel and interface materials diverted to the new route within the agreed timescale. The project was driven by early and sustained engagement as an integrated project team with Magnox and the Low Level Waste Repository, moving beyond the traditional waste owner / programme manager / supply-chain provider relationship and establishing a clear and shared understanding of the scope of work needed to deliver the project.

The project and resulting strategy change enabled a huge step forward in the cleaning up and decommissioning of one of the UK’s earliest nuclear sites, with approximately 1,400 drums of FED transferring off the Bradwell site. This led to approximately two years of dissolution operations being saved and bringing forward the site closure programme by nearly a year, representing £29M in savings for the taxpayer.

The NDA Supply Chain event will be held in Manchester on the 2nd November, and attended by our Inutec team hopeful of another award to add to their growing collection.
